the angel of death

When we got to Guadalupe there was no one there to stop us / so we took the gold and got back on the road / high above the mountains all the stars began to shine / from the wild of Texas down to Mexico / later down in Juarez there was something at the border / but we got across and found a couple rooms / nothing in the world wine and women won’t cure / there’s no better way to hide beside the tombs / there are men out in the night / who have sworn to track us down / but what do they know / they can’t even catch their breath / but keep a gun beneath the pillow son / and sleep with both boots on / because tonight we ride again / with the Angel of Death / when we got to Chihuahua there was something in the water / flies were buzzing as we waited for the train / but up in the Sierras it’s a different kind of life / a man can hide out there and never be found again / once we got to Creel / Jim moved onto Sonora / but at that point I just had to stay behind / got to find out what this twitching really means / is it the world outside or just my state of mind / there are men out in the night / who have sworn to track us down / but what do they know / they can’t even catch their breath / but keep a gun beneath the pillow son / and sleep with both boots on / because tonight we ride again / with the Angel of Death / well some nights I lie and listen to the distant thunder forming / and I wonder if I really got away / they could freak me out and flush me out before the morning / or I might live to see another day / I might live to see another day / I might live to see another day.
