all the roads

Nine o’clock she falls asleep / her cheek against my head / I lie awake and listen to the wind / wishing that it had the strength / to lift me out of bed / and fill my life with confidence again / many times I’ve packed a bag and headed for the car / turned the key and let the engine stir / ready to go searching / for those dreams I never found / but all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / every day I go to work / and come back home at five / driving down the same old interstate / wonder what would happen / if I passed that exit sign / and kept driving ‘til I reached the Golden Gate / television cameras would be there to break the news / policemen would file great reports / I could be the mystery that shook our little town / but all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / lying here I listen / to the cars go passing by / all my friends are staying out so late / they say I don’t party / now I’ve gone and settled down / well I think it’s time to set the record straight / reaching for my billfold / I get up and start to dress / stop to blow a kiss before I go / suddenly she sighs / and it’s that soft and gentle sound / and all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around.
