way to get along

Please Mr. President / words were made to fly / put on your tie / kiss your wife goodbye / and pick up the phone / they’re waiting there at home / sure it was an accident / but can’t you say that what we did was wrong / fly around the world / just to try and find a way to get along / think about your mom / sitting in her chair / silver in her hair / suddenly she picks up the phone / and lets out a moan / what if it was you and all she knew / was that her little boy was gone / fly around the world / just to try and find a way to get along / watching the pebbles go down into the river / watching the river go down into the deep / all night riding along / with just a shiver / you can only come before the crown / with the company you keep / you can only come before the crown / with the company you keep / he was just a man / shot down in his prime / didn’t have the time / to climb another hill in the road / his tale has been told / lightning ripped the fabric of their lives / just like the striking of a gong / fly around the world / just to try and find a way to get along / lightning ripped the fabric of their lives / just like the striking of a gong / fly around the world / just to try and find a way to get along.

beady point paul

Twenty men went out last night the sea was looking rough / they set out from the harbor underneath the rocky bluff / well they left with empty pockets through the early morning fog / and they swore that they’d be back in time to pack the Salty Dog / thirty yards away from shore the captain got too drunk / he spun the wheel downwards and that mighty vessel sunk / twenty men were hanging on to one long twisted line / one man brought them back to shore and got ‘em feeling fine / when the sky is coming down and shaking up the scene / when the wind is howling like a drunken wolverine / when the waves are breaking and you don’t know who to call / ooo-oo-oo / Beady Point Paul / Little Annie Sunday is no stranger to the sea / she never met a sailor who she wouldn’t like to be / she lives out in a trailer that’s been painted aqua-blue / and she never wears a shirt to hide her big anchor tattoo / sometimes when she’s lonely she lays back and shuts her eyes / whistles at the window louder than a seagull cries / one man will come knocking / one man will come in / one man will make Annie never leave these shores again / when the sky is coming down and shaking up the scene / when the wind is howling like a drunken wolverine / when the waves are breaking and you don’t know who to call / ooo-oo-oo / Beady Point Paul / at the furthest juncture where the water meets the rocks / living in a shack no bigger than a cardboard box / from the earliest of sunsets to the latest sunrise / sitting by a lantern drinking beer with other guys / master of the air and sea / master of the land /master of all food that comes preprocessed in a can / may your dragons never wake you / may your basement never fall / ooo-oo-oo /Beady Point Paul / ooo-oo-oo /Beady Point Paul.

sandhill cranes

We have traveled so far / just to see what we will find / we get out of the car / leave the highway signs behind / there’s a lake like a mirror / that reflects the mountain chain / as my love draws me near / we become two sandhill cranes / well we live in the town / and we work both night and day / cast in debt / sinking down / we could fret out lives away / bound by fear / torn by form / fettered down by gross restrain / we return to be born / and become two sandhill cranes / I can feel the wind beneath my feathers / and it’s brighter than the sun / that keeps the searching stars in flame / we will come together / up above the mountain heather / and the measure of our flight / will be the same / now my love knows the wind / and her wings are bowed in grace / oh so slow we ascend / on the lakes reflecting face / there are clouds on the shore / in the reeds red daylight rains / we have come home to soar / and become two sandhill cranes / we have come home to soar / and become two sandhill cranes.

nelly

Nelly I’m feeling the heat of the sun / why don’t you come out / and sit today / been such a long / long time feeling lonesome and blue / maybe you would know the way / sit a little bit beside the cool and murky shadows / build a little home across the bay / Nelly I’m feeling the heat of the sun / why don’t you come out / and sit today / Nelly I’m feeling that beating in my heart / and once it starts / it’s on its way / never seen somebody / so pretty to see / but look at me I’m old and gray / sit a little bit beside the green and glassy water / never need a single word to say / Nelly I’m feeling that beating in my heart / and once it starts it’s on its way / Nelly I’m feeling the heat of the sun / why don’t you come out / and sit today.

all the roads

Nine o’clock she falls asleep / her cheek against my head / I lie awake and listen to the wind / wishing that it had the strength / to lift me out of bed / and fill my life with confidence again / many times I’ve packed a bag and headed for the car / turned the key and let the engine stir / ready to go searching / for those dreams I never found / but all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / every day I go to work / and come back home at five / driving down the same old interstate / wonder what would happen / if I passed that exit sign / and kept driving ‘til I reached the Golden Gate / television cameras would be there to break the news / policemen would file great reports / I could be the mystery that shook our little town / but all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / lying here I listen / to the cars go passing by / all my friends are staying out so late / they say I don’t party / now I’ve gone and settled down / well I think it’s time to set the record straight / reaching for my billfold / I get up and start to dress / stop to blow a kiss before I go / suddenly she sighs / and it’s that soft and gentle sound / and all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around / all the roads keep turning me around.

monsoon

Black clouds have gathered on the coast / every bad dream has its own bad dream to share / the things that matter the most / have a way of catching up with you somewhere / I see them coming from the west / and pretty soon the trees begin to sway / it puts my courage to the test / but I wouldn’t have it any other way / monsoon / monsoon / spending every waking hour without you / come through / come through / black clouds are coming from the west / and pretty soon there’s nowhere safe to hide / what will you do with all the rest / when there’s not one man left / to keep you satisfied / monsoon / monsoon / spending every waking hour without you / come through / come through / come through / come through.

live to die

Where can we turn / now that the world has turned away / where can we go / now we’ve got no place to stay / what can we give / when even the gods are standing by / why do we live / if we only live to die / why do we live / if we only live to die / live to die / what is a dream / why does it always seem so real / how does it look / when you reach the windowsill / all of them there / staring up into the sky / why do we live / if we only live to die / why do we live / if we only live to die / live to die / why do I weep / why do I cry / why do I die / where is my town / where are the friendly folks I knew / all of them gone / only a freeway crashing through / all of our lives / only a moment that’s passing by / why do we live / if we only live to die / why do we live / if we only live to die / live to die / why do I heave / why do I sigh / why do I die.
